| In the town center , life is concentrated around the old market place with its many fruit and vegetable vendors The nearly church Built in the 17th century and reconstructed in 1932 under the guidance of the famous architec Ali Tur. An impressive fresco marks the interior. The square has recently been the object of renovation. | |||||||||
| The Monument of the year 2000 | |||||||||
| It was realized by local artist Bruno Pédurand, and is situated on the church-square. It symbolizes the start of the new millenium and is composed out of three elements; a door (passing of time), a slope of three separated blocks (the spaces represent the stages of life), and a totem ( references to cultures and etnics). | |||||||||

| It is not just a favorite place for boating fans but also for
visitors who will appreciate the different culinary specialities
of Guadeloupe in the many restaurants or buy souvenirs. It is also the port of call for the ferries to "la Désirade", "Petite-Terre", "Marie-Galante" and "the Saints". |
