Also
called the island with beautifull waters, Guadeloupe is an archipelago
of 1779 km² divided in 2 main islands :
- Basse Terre : 848 km² (the capital)
- Grande Terre : 588 km²
both of these islands are separated by a narrow arm of sea, "The
Salt River". Guadeloupe is surrounded by many little islands
as :
- La Désirade, Marie Galante, les Saintes, Petite Terre,
Saint Martin.
The
first inhabitants of Guadeloupe were the Arawaks (indians coming
from Venezuela).
Discovered on the 11th of April 1493 by Christophe Colomb, the island
became a french department on the 19 th of march 1946.
Currently there are around 450 000 inhabitants in Guadeloupe.
Tropical climate and temperature between 24° and 34° all
over the year. To be discovered absolutly !
